The Mother, Earth

Mother Earth
She whispers Thank you
she feels my gratitude and echoes me,
I feel her presence
exchanging from the earth body to my own
I feel the divinity coursing
changing me
my blood is water
my body is dirt
my breath is fire
I am the air
cool, transient, unavailable
and sometimes forsaken
retribution in stillness
holding on to hope
Mother Earth, she bleeds for me
She bleeds her soft welcome so I can see
It is not pollution or misuse of the land
it is the lack of communication
I honour her when I walk upon her
stepping over her roots
she feeds me from veins that plunge into meaty soil
She needs me, and I need her
this exchange never ends
It goes on and on and on
We all need her this way

  1. What beautiful words!! I went to bed last night thinking about the trail and it was the first thing to pop into my head this morning. Then to find your post I feel that I am filled with peace! Going at the time of day with the sun low in the horizon, felt so magical. Thank you for coming with me! Thank you for everything!

  2. Laurie, thank you! If I'd never met you, I might not have seen so many sacred places. And your appreciation for nature is absolutely contagious.

  3. Nicole, this is a beautiful poem, a wonderful tribute to Earth Day!I love these words,:

She needs me, and I need her
    this exchange never ends
It goes on and on and on
We all need her this way.

    Thanks for this inspired piece!

  4. Beautiful earth day tribute Nicole...and I really like your last post too, on the body. I definitely fell into the trap of ignoring my body as part of my spiritual path at one point, and am now careful of honoring and integrating it...

  5. Thank you, Miruh, for your kind words :o) I'm glad you enjoyed the poem!

Thanks Lisa for your comments! There is definitely something to be said for connecting the body, mind and spirit all as one ... it seems important. And perspective changes when you honour the body. All things become more complete somehow.
